Join us for our first ever full-length Christmas program. The Concert and Junior Varsity choirs will team up with a special alumni chorus, members of the Amadeus Chamber Symphony, and professional harpist Sarah Grudem to present an evening of both new and familiar Christmas pieces. Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols will be performed in its entirety, along with works by Gustav Holst, Bob Chilcott and Sir David Willcocks.

 

Lift Every Voice: Celebrating Black History

As our nation celebrates Black History Month, The St. John’s Boys’ Choir joins in acclaiming the rich musical history brought to us by our African-American brothers and sisters. Special guest, Jearlyn Steele, will join with SJBC and the Nu-Way Missionary Baptist Church Youth Choir to present a program of music from the African diaspora, encompassing African folk music, spirituals and gospel music.

This gala event features a silent auction, gourmet dinner and concert with performances from all SJBC ensembles. The theme for the dinner and auction, Northern Lights, is selected in recognition of the Concert Choir's upcoming tour to Canada in the summer of 2009. Please join us for this annual fundraiser which helps sustain the programs and services of the organization.

 

 

On Tour 2009: In Every Corner Sing

KidSing – Central Minnesota Children’s Singing Festival

This new venture is a joint project with the SCSU Cantabile Girls’ Choir under the leadership of Jane Oxton. The conductors of SJBC and Cantabile will lead a series of workshops and rehearsals meant to engage kids in the music-making progress, having lots of fun along the way. The event will involve over 250 children from the Central Minnesota area, representing close to 50 schools.

Anton Armstrong comes to Saint John’s to lead SJBC and a host of other regional choirs in the Abbey’s annual hymn festival. Join us for this interactive, ecumenical program celebrating the rich history of sacred liturgical music.

Minnesota Boychoir Festival

The unique boychoir tradition in Minnesota will be celebrated at Saint John’s as four of Minnesota’s boychoirs will come together for one day to sing and play together. This event will connect boys from around the state who share a love of singing and help to promote male participation in choral music. Guests include the Land of Lakes Choirboys (Francis Stockwell, conductor), the Minnesota Boys’ Choir (Mark Johnson) and the Central Minnesota Boys’ Choir (Mary Moen).
