André-Louis Heywood
Artistic Director André Heywood has a Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting from the Don Wright Faculty of Music of the University of Western Ontario. As an undergraduate student, André achieved degrees in both Biochemistry and Music Education. During his tenure at UWO he was the recipient of numerous awards for academic achievement, vocal performance, conducting and teaching. He has also been honored on the national stage for his writing by the Canadian Music Educator’s Association.
For two years, André was the Assistant Conductor of the Amabile Boys Choir and UWO Singers. He also served as conductor of the UWO Choir and was director of music at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in London, Ontario. In 2004, he founded the Conspirato Chamber Singers as an auditioned community choir for young adults in London. The choir has achieved great success and has been selected to perform at provincial and national music conferences.
Over the past twelve years André has sung with various award-winning choral groups, including the Amabile Choirs, UWO Singers and Thames Scholars. André now sings with the Twin Cities based choral ensemble, Kantorei, and with the St. John's Abbey Schola. He is a member of ACCC, CMEA, and The VoiceCare Network. |

Bret Amundson
Associate Artistic Director Bret Amundson has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Vocal Performance and Choral Conducting from Saint John’s University and is currently pursuing his Masters of Music in Choral Conducting from Saint Cloud State University. This is Bret’s third year as the Associate Artistic Director of The St. John’s Boys’ Choir where he conducts the Junior Varsity Choir, organizes and teaches the theory and recorder programs, and spearheads the annual Junior Varsity tour. During his undergraduate study, Bret worked for The St. John’s Boys’ Choir as a student worker where he directed the Training Choir. Bret is the Vocal Music Director at Cathedral High School/John XXIII Middle School in St. Cloud, where he directs five curricular and two co-curricular choirs. In 2007, the Cathedral Concert Choir was invited to perform at the Minnesota Music Educator’s Association Mid-Winter Clinic. Recently, Bret was honored to receive the American Choral Director’s Association of Minnesota’s 2007 Outstanding Young Director Award. In addition to teaching, Bret sings in the Twin Cities based choral ensemble, Kantorei. Bret is a member of ACDA, MMEA, MENC, and The VoiceCare Network.

Tom Speckhard
Training Choir Director Tom Speckhard recently joined SJBC in 2008 as the director of the Training Choir. As such, he is entrusted with the vocal and social development of the youngest boys of the organization. He received his BA in Music from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire and his MM in Vocal Performance from the University of Manitoba. He toured throughout the United States, South America and Europe with the U.S. Air Force Band "Singing Sergeants".
Tom brings a wealth of experience as a performer, with credits in opera, musical theatre, jazz and classical repertoire. He has performed recently with Theatre de la Jeune Leune, Wilmington Symphony and Minneapolis Guitar Quartet. He has taught at the MacPhail Center for the Arts and Normandale College. Currently he teaches voice at CSB/SJU and directs the university's annual opera performance and is active in church music ministry. |
